Provenance: Very Early Books on George Washington

When it comes to our nations First President there is hardly a shortage of regarding George Washington. But in 1804, just five years after he passed, the first books written were instant classics. I managed to score both editions of Washington Irving's biographies as well as John Marshall, the former Supreme Court Chief Justice John Marshall.

According to the American Library of Congress, only nine copies of each are known to exist. These came form the estate sale of the twin sister of Montgomery Clift. These were acquired for a fraction of their actual worth.
